our knees hurt is about female-identifying bodies and what it means to have one. The piece explores the centuries-long battles female-identifying people have been fighting (and continue to fight) for bodily autonomy, self-esteem, and equal treatment within a system that was not built with us in mind, and within which their dignity is deemed negotiable.
This is a project stems from the anger, fear, urgency, and abandonment that many female-identifying people are feeling at this pivotal and regressive moment in history. The subject matter of the piece – ranging from anger, frustration, and annoyance to heartbreak, strength, and humor – is heavy and, unfortunately, inherently political in the current cultural climate.

“It is my hope that this piece will add depth, perspective, empathy, and ultimately demonstrate that these are not political issues, but human ones.”
our knees hurt does not aim to answer questions or offer solutions, only to share stories and perspectives of female-identifying people.
our knees hurt was originally premiered at Cleveland Public Theatre’s DanceWorks 2025. Excerpts of our knees hurt has also been selected to be performed at Playhouse Square’s 2025 Dance Showcase, as well as at Pandemonium 2025, Cleveland Public Theatre’s annual fundraising gala event.
Christina Lindhout & Artists would like to thank all of the listed individuals for making our knees hurt a reality.
